Hollywood Information

The name Hollywood is synonymous with glamour, fashion and fame. Many historic Hollywood theaters are used as venues and concert stages to premiere major theatrical releases and host the Academy Awards. It is a popular destination for nightlife, and tourism and is home to the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

As a section of Los Angeles, Hollywood does not have its own municipal government, but is an exception in that it does have specific boundaries. These borders can be loosely described as the area east of Beverly Hills, south of Mulholland Drive, north of Melrose Avenue and west of the Golden State Freeway. Though not an independent city, Hollywood does have an official, appointed by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, who serves as an honorary "Mayor of Hollywood" for ceremonial purposes only.

From an economic standpoint the film and television industry is the largest employer in Hollywood. The industry's contribution to the local economy goes far beyond acting jobs, as production companies drive the economy of many peripheral industries such as caterers, trucking, and clothing, as well as purchasing permits and paying fees for location shooting. The film industry is also intricately linked with tourism. Much of the lure of Hollywood is that it is the home of movie stars and many tourists seem to expect to run into famous actors when they visit.
